HOLLINGROVE NEWS MAY 2010

Plenty has been happening at Hollingrove over the past few months with the stud busy getting mares in foal, including two exciting embryo transfers, and more planned next season with our three imported mares. We are now expecting seven foals for the coming season by sires Dancier, Desperados, Sir Donnerhall, Royal Oak 11, Shiraz Black and Furst Love - with any luck, there should be some black foals amongst them! This season's Sir Donnerhall foal Hollingrove Sorrento from Bella Carmina certainly surprised us by being black!  Go to our Foal Page to see him! He is looking great- leggy, elegant and pretty, amazing movement with plenty of knee action and a friendly, confident nature. We were thrilled that he received a Top Ten Foal on Tour award from Dr Ludwig Christmann of the Hanoverian Verband Germany and it was a privilege to be invited to attend the annual Hanoverian Society dinner at the recent CDI in Sydney to accept the award.

Bella Carmina's St Moritz colt Salzburg arrived safely and has settled in well at his new home Primrose Court Stud in WA owned by Anna Thompson, and is wowing visitors with his amazing movement!

Hollingrove Highwayman  - pictured top right (His Highness x H.Fantine) has been sold to well known FEI rider Lisa Martin of Scone NSW and has settled in well at his new Hunter Valley home. Sam Pascoe, Gurteen Stud, New Zealand new owner of his mother H.Fantine, reports she has foaled a spectacular dark brown colt with plenty of white markings by Dancier - pictured below right.

Plans are nearly complete for our tour to Germany this July/August.

We arrive just prior the annual Oldenburger Mare Show at Rastede- a massive event we believe, over about 4 days which includes most forms of horse competitions including FEI and Young Horse dressage and show jumping as well as the breed show. We then head to Verden for the Hanoverian Summer Auction, before catching up with friends for a few days and visiting various studs, including Celle to check out their new/young stallions in order to make decisions on semen for the coming season. We feel it is most important to personally check over stallions and their progeny, if possible, watch them under saddle, as well as gather as much information about their temperaments, training characteristics etc from talking to their riders and staff at the studs before investing our money, time and effort in breeding to stallions that you have only seen on a video or even just in a photo, as many Australian breeders must do.

Our tour finishes at the World Young Dressage and Showjumping Horse Championships in Verden, a must see event for serious performance horse breeders, where we expect to catch up with plenty of Aussies and well as the many friends that we have made from our previous visits to Germany. Hopefully we will get to see the Australian horse Summersby owned by John Potter and bred by Frank and Nicole Pistner, the same breeders as our mare Bella Carmina , compete in the 6 year old class. By the time we return home it will not be long before the first foals start to arrive!

HOLLINGROVE NEWS JANUARY 2010
Written by Berni Saunders, Cyberhorse

Hollingrove Stud  ... congratulations all round!
January 2010 has got off to a very good start for Hollingrove Stud's Bruce and Debbie Williams, who could not have been more pleased with the achievements of their outstanding imported mare Lady De Luxe.  She won class No 0642 -  Mare (dry), 4 years old and over and went on top become the Champion Led Mare or Filly.  Lady De Luxe was imported from Germany by the Victorian State Dressage Coach and Australian Olympian, Mary Hanna ... and is by the outstanding Hanoverian stallion Londonderry.  The well conformed mare with the looks of a show horse and world class movement is set to make her contribution to the future generations of Australian bred Hanoverian (http://www.hanoverian.org.au)  horses.

Bruce and Debbie have a number of imported mares and their breeding program see these wonderful mare sent to the best performed international stallions.  Hollingrove horses have made their mark in the show ring and as top level performance horses - Lady De Luxe will be served (frozen semen) by the outstanding black Hanoverian stallion Royal Classic and this mating is sure to produce something very special.  Debbie said, "We were thrilled with our beautiful mare and most acknowledge the fantastic job done by her handler Harold Hartnett.  The Judge was well know Victorian show horse rider and producer, Karen Fisher and she looked for quality and movement in her Champions."

Just days after Lady De Luxe's special achievements comes some very good news from the breeding paddocks at Hollingrove Stud - the safe arrival of a jet black colt from Bella Carmina  (Bellissimo M)  who was purchased by Bruce and Debbie Williams at the 2009 Elite Hanoverian Foal and Broodmare Sale in Verden, Germany in 2008.  The black 1 day old Sir Donnerhall colt born on the 27th January is already shows the stamp of his respected performance sire Sandro Hit.

Debbie said, "We are delighted with the quality of the horses we are breeding at Hollingrove and gratified to see the Australian enthusiast with a greater appreciation for the European Performance Testing and classification process.  It costs as much to raise and train a horse with only a small chance of reaching the top.  Both Bruce and I are riders and understand that it is so much better to start with a youngster that has decades of proven performances in the pedigree as so much of what makes a good horse is highly heritable and can be predicted when you breed from proven family lines!"
