2011 News

Exciting news for Hollingrove Stud when it was announced that Hollingrove Sunburst (Sunny Boy x Hollingrove Fantine), owned and trained by Sally Mayall of WA had been selected for the EA Future Development Squad. Young rider Sally and “Spring” have enjoyed already much success, winning Championships at Preliminary and Novice level in dressage, as well as many breed classes at shows. Testament to Spring's lovely obliging nature and Sally's “joie de vivre”, the pair often have fun away from the dressage arena at the beach, Pony Club , riding in the bush and even doing photo shoots for modelling advertisements - Pictured below.

Hollingrove Sunburst "Spring”  - Australia's future talent.

Sunburst's 3 yo.  half-brother Hollingrove Highwayman by His Highness, owned and ridden by Lisa Martin of Scone, NSW also greatly impressed at the selection day in NSW, however, unfortunately due to his young age, did not have the necessary performance record, so was requested to represent as a 4 yo.next year. Lisa reports that he shows awesome talent, calmness and trainability!

Our first two foals for the 2011 season have now arrived safely- both from our top imported mare “Bella Carmina”.  A beautiful  chestnut Quaterback filly with plenty of bling and big, elastic paces, and a gorgeous bay San Amour ET colt – both fulfilling our expectations as being extra special! We now await the next five foals due within the next 6 weeks – a very busy time indeed!  The chestnut foal is the Quarterback/Bella Carmina pictured at 5 days old.  The beautiful bay is the San Amour/Bella Carmina (ET) foal.

Dream of Romance (Don Romantic/Londonderry) and Amaris (Ampere/Weltmeyer), our 2 imported yearling fillies have settled in and are growing well. IIt is very satisfying to read that both of their sires have been starring in Europe.  Ampere is "officially" the most popular breeding stallion used in Sweden in 2011 and a record price of 200,000 Euros was set when a colt by Ampere from a Sandro Hit/ Donnerhall mare was sold at the Oldenberg Foal Auction.

Don Romantic was the sire of Prima Donna, the Danish Warmblood Mare of the Year in 2011 so our fillies are sure to achieve our goal to breed horses of international quality with the best international pedigrees.  The selection procedures have been in place for many generations and this takes away the guess work and ensures that we improve the quality of our broodmare band and this in turn ensures our clients - old and new - that they can buy a Hollingrove youngster with confidence knowing that it has been bred to perform!

We were pleased to see Hollingrove Contiki's father Contucci siring Cha Ching - the Champion Foal at the 2011 Devon Breed Show - the biggest show of it's kind in USA.

We love getting feedback from the owners of horses that we have bred and catch up with  where they are at with their training and competing. The Engelharts from South Australia have said that they are extremely pleased with their  colt Hollingrove Fiderline - the first foal from our imported Sandro Hit mare Santa Fe by Fidertanz, reporting “He has been a delight since his arrival as a weanling - no trouble at all- broke in easily and is now progressing well under saddle.  We are awaiting his first foal and Fiderline will stand at public stud this season”.

Hollingrove Fiderline

Fiderline 's half-sister has been retained by the stud.  Hollingrove Rihanna by Royal Hit, nicknamed “Rabbit” and has also just been started under saddle and is looking quite special too! She is pictured right during her early training.

The 5yo. black stallion H.Surreal (Sirocco/Dream of Glory) continues to delight his proud owner Debbie McGann having much success at Preliminary/Novice level in Queensland.

His 3yo half bother by Fidertanz,- Hollingrove Flashdance is owned by VictoriansKristy Birse, and was recently started under saddle. He also seems to have inherited the same delightful, easy obliging nature which makes horses with these bloodlines a pleasure to own.

We Congratulate Julie Mills on the recent purchase of the lovely brown, Royal Oak 11

filly, Hollingrove Rosewood, also one of Hollingrove Dreamtime's babies.
Julie is a very keen and dedicated rider and we wish them a great future together.

Congratulations also to successful FEI rider and good friend , Nicole Vanatta and her partner Charlie Pragnell on becoming the part owners (with us), rider and trainer of the highly impressive Sir Donnerhall / Hollingrove Fallon filly Hollingrove Saffron. We expect great things from this combination in a few year's time!

Saffie's 3yo. half-sister Roxy by Royal Hit has also found a wonderful new home with talented young rider Corinne Winch and we wish them much future success .

Hollingrove Adonis continues to improve, is now training Prix St George and is currently ranked 6th at Medium level on the EA Leaderboard from limited outings.

The talented Escudo show jumping mare Hollingrove Eve (pictured right)  jointly owned and competed by Murray and Julie Sproull continues to impress and recently placed at one of the major shows. We look forward to having her compete in the 5yo class at next year's D&SJWTS.

We have added to our family of feathered friends who live in the kitchen and give is a great deal of pleasure.  We have  Joey - a crimson Rosella, Lori - a Rainbow Lorikeet and the latest addition is Keeto - the baby Rainblow Lorikeet.  Their attempts to outdo each other is a constant source of amusement and fun.

Still on the home front, spring is now well under way with lots of blossom, flowers, lush grass with fat ponies and cows,.  We have added some very cute additions to our cattle herd, calves by the Canadian breed called Speckle Park.

This is a breed renowned for ease of calving, excellent muscling and eating qualities and are ideal for using over heifers or small cows, proving perfect for the small/hobby farmer. They would also have been of great assistance getting the perfect alert horse photo with ears pricked - that is, if I had been carrying a camera .  When the horses saw them for the first time, their eyes nearly popped out of their heads!

We have recently returned from visiting our 2 fillies in Germany.  They are developing extremely well, so we are very pleased.

Both fillies have outstanding paces and the owner of the property, Heinrich Heemke (a retired Hannoverian classifier) being most impressed with them, saying ... " every day they show excellent gaits".

We have decided to arrange transport on the next available flights so they can grow up with us here in Australia where we can enjoy them and they can enjoy wide open spaces all year round!

On our return, we immediately faced a busy but exciting time with D&JWTS and the results were pleasing ... see below.

Later in April, Hollingrove Adonis will be competing at the SA Dressage Championships, and then it will be the Hanoverian Presentation dinner at the Sydney CDI  ... and somehow we need to fit in to this schedule foal weaning and cow calving!

Above - A special moment - ... With Melbourne's unseasonal stormy weather we found Rabbit and Roxy one morning quite intrigued by a fallen branch from one of the big cypress trees.  They seemed to be asking us "what is going on here???" They are both growing up beautifully and we especially love the picture of Rabbit showing her style on the arena.

Hollingrove Eve did very well at D&JWTS (March 2011) - she placed 5th in one class and was 6th overall in the 4yo Australian Young Jumping Horse Championship.  We were thrilled with her achievements as it was only the 3rd time that she had been out anywhere (one training day and one comp. previously) so it was all very new to her.  Greg Best commented to one of the stewards that he would take home 2 horses out of the 4yo class- the winner and Eve! He also noted that she improved in every class, and this is all that could be asked of a young horse!

We are thrilled to announce that our embryo transfer colt foal Hollingrove Dazzler by top IFS sire Dancier from our imported SandroHit/Donnerhall mare “Santa Fe “ has been awarded Champion Foal of the 2011 Hanoverian Tour. The spectacularly marked liver chestnut colt has created huge interest since his birth in January with his remarkable presence and movement and gorgeous looks making naming him Dazzler an obvious choice!

Hollingrove Stud also had a fantastic weekend at the AWHA Gala Mare and Foal Show with our much admired  imported mare, “Bella Carmina” stepping out for the first time in Australia to claim the title of Champion Broodmare and highest scoring AWHA Horse, keeping her unbeaten show record intact. Earlier in the day, her yearling son Hollingrove Sorrento by Sir Donnerhall  won Champion Junior Exhibit for his delighted new owner Kristie Birse. We congratulate Kristie for the outstanding presentation of her winner!

We also congratulate Julie Smout from Kilmore on the purchase of FLEUR de LIS.  Julie and her family also had a great day and her filly was awarded 2nd place from a very strong class at this important show.  Julie is a long standing and valued client of Hollingrove Stud and we enjoyed sharing her fantastic achievement.
